The Project “Lättläst IT enligt Tikas” 2011–2013

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) play an essential role in supporting daily life in the digital information society of today. Considering the importance of ICT skills concerning the possibilities to participate in today’s society, all individuals should have the possibility to use ICT. The Project Lättläst IT enligt Tikas (“Easy to read IT”) is a national project of which the aim is to promote e-Inclusion and e-Accessibility, through enhancing the possibilities for persons in the Swedish-speaking parts of Finland with an intellectual or learning disability to ICT and thereby take part in the information society.

The project will aim to benefit people with reading and learning difficulties, for example people with an intellectual disability, as well as elderly persons and people who have insufficient knowledge of the official languages of their country of residence, for example immigrants. The possibilities for persons with an intellectual or learning disability to use IT and Internet will be primarily enhanced through teaching materials as well as teaching tools and certificate for teachers. The Finnish-speaking Tikas pedagogical ICT and education training model for students with special needs, which only benefits Finnish-speaking persons, constitutes the model of this project.

The project is carried out by FDUV (Förbundet De Utvecklingsstördas Väl) and funded by RAY (Finland’s Slot Machine Association).
